Zee Pee Dee

Zee Pee Dee is made in response to my training to be a secondary school art and design teacher.  It is exploring ideas of opportunity and high quality teaching in art and design education. Which children get the best chances in 2018? Provision varies greatly across schools, as pressure to prioritise Ebacc subjects for Progress 8 related funding means many departments are stretched and offer limited opportunities to develop the cultural capital of their students. Teaching the “formal elements” is more achievable than relating to the lived experience of students.

In a homage to TV shows of my childhood – Bitsa, the Broom Cupboard, Hartbeat and Art Attack, and Vygotsky’s Social Development theory I have created a small TV programme based around a spinning wheel of chance.

Made at the UCL Institute of Education Art and Design department, June 2018
